Volunteering

CASA volunteers come from all areas of the community. A social service or legal background is not required. Volunteers are carefully screened for maturity, responsibility, objectivity, cultural sensitivity, commitment, and the ability to relate to families in stressful situations. Background checks are performed to ensure minimum legal standards are met.

A CASA has three main responsibilities:

1. To serve as a fact-finder for the judge by thoroughly researching the background and current circumstances of each assigned case.

2. To speak for the child in the court proceedings, representing the child’s best interests.

3. To continue to advocate for the child during the life of the case, ensuring that it is brought to a swift and appropriate conclusion.
