Application and Training Process
CASA volunteers come from all areas of the community. A social service or legal background is not required. Volunteers are carefully screened for maturity, responsibility, objectivity, cultural sensitivity, commitment, and the ability to relate to families in stressful situations. Background checks are performed to ensure minimum legal standards are met.
After filling out an application form, you will be scheduled for an interview in our office. This interview will last approximately one hour at which time you will be asked to acknowledge your understanding of the process which must be completed in order to become a certified CASA:
- The applicant must successfully complete the fingerprint process.
- The applicant must successfully complete the polygraph examination.
- A check of the references provided will be completed
- The applicant must successfully complete all 30 hours of CASA Advocacy Academy training: Getting Started, Advocacy Academy, and Beyond the Basics.
- The applicant must successfully complete other local requirements; i.e., court observations per county requirement.
- At any point in this process, the applicant or the Pima County Court Appointed Special Advocate Program may, for any reason whatsoever, terminate the process and exit the program.
